I was woken up this morning to esteemed Substack colleague and Australian

sending me the following Facebook update from the highly belligerent and insufferable Alex Greenwich MP for the Greens party of NSW. For Americans that’s the fringe left party which began in Australia as a protest party in hippy and alternative lifestyle seats against big gas explorations, polluting natural ecosystems and preserving biodiversity. Now it’s a bag of circus act nuts which has a history running candidates who cheer on burning down the Australian Museum of Democracy for indigenous rights, think that modern nuclear submarines powered by small reactors have the same fallout potential as the whole of Chernobyl, and are constantly getting themselves beat up by police officers disobeying move-on orders at high security manufacturing sites.

The above post shared to me summarises some of the across the board supported sweeping overhauls to things like international surrogacy (and potential women’s trafficking) oversight, removal of medical procedure qualifiers to legally change one’s sex on their birth certificate (meaning you just don’t even need to make an effort to adjust and “look the part”), and you can also go to jail for hate crimes if you now think legally classifying cop-out low effort dungeons and dragons gender identities is socially dysfunctional and Chris Chanesque mentally ill (whoops! I’m gonna need a legal defence fund).

The Greens are also big on hate speech laws and legal pushes which unconditionally support all undocumented asylum claimants without proper vetting and dismantling of the systems which actually stopped Australia getting into the situation Europe has been in since the undocumented migrant waves following the Syrian Civil War. Funnily enough, as both from families of refugees Sabina and I both agree wholeheartedly that there’s a reason Australia’s safe for communities like ours, and it’s not because of the Greens.

Sabina is a Sudanese Christian and part ancestral Mizrahi who came to Australia as a kid to Melbourne and is ironically a lot more politically conservative than I could ever be. She also just survived stage 4 cancer of the left fallopian tube which she deleted in a viral Substack post this week.

There’s many a claim I’ve heard in Greens voter demographics as arguments to deconstruct essentialist safeguards in legal classifications for women’s spaces by stating that “infertile women are just as much women as trans and gender diverse women”. Which I’m sure this recent legislative passing would have really made Sabina happy to hear about coming out of quite aggressive medical interventions just to have the shot at living past her current age in her early 20s.
