The Ballad of Canaris and Pace

A song of comeuppance for my rotund encyclopaedic friend who was long exploited by Damien Pace the Old Man of Macquarie Uni Liberal Club

Background

There was an eccentric figure I met hanging out in Liberal party circles whom I have pictured below. He’s a personal friend and a regular group chat contributor. Another member remarked that if he was alive one hundred and twenty years ago that he would be an esteemed university professor somewhere.

Unfortunately he’s left with an encyclopaedic knowledge, an inner city unit and an internet connection rather than a university position. So someone like Damien Pace I wrote about in How I Met the Old Man from the Daily Mail who prowls around electoral roles, party conferences and university campus open weeks looking for recruits to do political dirty work with the empty promise of staffer roles on one end and a very real delivery of verbal and emotional abuse on the other would be the target for such an operation. As one might say of anyone in his orbit, “A mild interest in politics and a whiff of free time is enough to attract Damien Poltergeist into your home.”
