Curious what you guys think about why Europe's adoption of gunpowder weapons also happened to coincide with the Age of Discovery, Scientific Revolution, Renaissance, and Reformation?
I definitely think there’s something to be said about the arms race between nations with standing armies, the need to support the general non-aristocratic or mercantile public now that they were the source of Western Europe’s standard pike and shot troop and a general concept to philosophise for the betterment of humanity in material terms with the work in a similar period to the mass adoption of gunpowder at the turn of the 1600s with Sir Francis Bacon’s work in the Scientific Method.
